Mitchell faces late test

Champions Queen of the South will give defender Chris Mitchell a late fitness test on a groin injury ahead of their match against relegation-threatened East Fife.

Ian McShane remains sidelined following hip surgery as the Doonhamers look to create a new points record in the Second Division by earning at least a draw against the Fifers.

Player-manager Allan Johnston said: "Training has been at the usual high tempo this week as we don't want things to fall flat.

"We have a trophy presentation after the game which is the last one on our grass pitch before an artificial one is put down, so it is a special day in Dumfries.

"East Fife had a great win over Alloa last Saturday and that has also allowed us to keep focused."

East Fife welcome back Darren McCormack from suspension as they look to avoid automatic relegation by becoming the first side to win at Palmerston Park this season.

McCormack's inclusion gives manager Billy Brown a full squad to choose from as he tries to build on last Saturday's 2-1 win over Alloa.

The New Bayview boss said: "The boys played well last weekend and the key difference was getting ahead in the game.

"A second goal and seeing things out despite a late rally from Alloa has helped confidence but we are up against things in this game.

"It is a huge day for a very good Queen of the South side but we will give it a go."
