Baird to face fitness test

Queen of the South's summer signing John Baird will be included against Alloa if he passes a Saturday lunchtime fitness test.

The Doonhamers are again without the injured Mark Kerr (hamstring), Paul Burns (knee), Stephen McKenna (hip) and Michael Paton (hamstring), however boss Jim McIntyre is determined that his men build on their 5-0 Scottish League Cup demolition of Elgin last weekend.

McIntyre said: "We were ruthless and we need to carry that into the league. Like us, Alloa will see this as an opportunity to get points on board quickly and we need to ensure that they are disappointed."

Alloa are also low on numbers as they miss the injured Eddie Ferns (knee) and David Weatherston (ankle) as well as the banned pair of Jonathan Tiffoney and Mark Docherty.

Manager Barry Smith is only being positive ahead of the trip to Dumfries.

He said: "We might be missing a few bodies, however, we started our season with two good cup wins and will take confidence from doing that into this one.

"Queen of the South are without a few of their players as well but we will both have to utilise our squads throughout the season and will simply have to start doing so from this game."
