Queen of the South romp to win over Dumbarton

Queen of the South halted a three-match losing run in the Scottish Championship with a comprehensive 6-0 home victory against Dumbarton.

Goals from Darren Brownlie and Derek Lyle just before half-time put the hosts in control and Lyle then struck again early in the second half. Alex Harris added his name to the scoresheet twice before substitute Iain Russell completed the rout.

Dumbarton goalkeeper Jamie Ewings had been worked by Harris and Dale Hilson but there was little he could do to stop Brownlie's header after 34 minutes.

Lyle then beat Ewings with a low, right-foot shot in the 43rd minute and did so again with 52 minutes on the clock to ensure Queen of the South would secure all three points. Christian Nade might have pulled a goal back but he dragged his shot wide.

Gary Oliver, who set up Lyle's second goal, claimed two more assists as Harris struck in the 69th and 73rd minutes with efforts from inside the box. Harris then teed-up Russell to finish with two minutes left.
