Doonhamers put the frighteners on the Terrors

Queen of the South scored twice in the final nine minutes to finally see off the challenge of Dundee United and claim a 4-2 win - their first victory in six league games.

Queens had twice seen leads given to them by Derek Lyle and Stephen Dobbie wiped out by a brace from United's Danish striker Thomas Mikkelsen, but substitutes Lyndon Dykes and Dale Hilson netted late on to ensure the points would be staying in Dumfries.

Lyle opened the scoring in the 19th minute with neat finish following a Dobbie through-ball but Mikkelsen cancelled that strike out in the 27th minute when he rounded home keeper Lee Robinson to score.

Queens were ahead again before the break thanks to Dobbie, who finished off a counter-attack, but United rallied once more and made it 2-2 when Mikkelsen reacted quickest to a parry from Robinson to net his second of the match.

That looked to have salvaged a rare away point for fourth-placed United, but the hosts had other ideas and Dykes put them back in front in the 81st minute before Hilson wrapped things up late on.
