Stephen Mallan on target as St Mirren win at Queen of the South

Stephen Mallan's first-half effort and a penalty from Rory Loy helped basement club St Mirren secure a 2-0 victory at Queen of the South in the Ladbrokes Scottish Championship.

The hosts edged the early exchanges, Stephen Dobbie testing goalkeeper Billy O'Brien with a long-range strike before going close with another effort from distance.

Dominic Thomas smashed an effort against the crossbar in the 11th minute and O'Brien had to be alert to deny the influential winger soon after.

However, the visitors took the lead just before the interval when Mallan struck from close range.

And the Buddies clinched all three points in the second half when Lewis Morgan was fouled in the area and Loy stepped up to send James Atkinson the wrong way.
