PSV Eindhoven coach Fred Rutten has been sacked following three straight defeats, the Dutch first division club announced Monday.
He will be replaced by his assistant Phillip Cocu until the end of the season.
"PSV has dissolved the contracts of Fred Rutten and (assistant) Erik ten Hag," the club said on its website adding "Phillip Cocu and Ernest Faber will take over until the season's end."
Faber will depart FC Eindhoven, where he had worked as coach, to sign a new two-year deal with PSV, the club said.
Rutten coached FC Twente from 2006 to 2008, but after moving to Schalke 04 in the summer of 2008 he lasted barely nine months with the German club before being sacked in March 2009.
A month later he was appointed coach of PSV, replacing interim coach Dwight Lodewegens and returning to the club where he had worked as assistant to Guus Hiddink during what was a golden era for the club.
Rutten's sacking follows successive losses to FC Twente (2-6), Valencia (4-2) and NAC Breda (3-1).
