Wojciech Szczesny

A goalkeeper who joined Arsenal as a teenager after developing in Poland in the youth system of Legia Warsaw.

Wojciech proved to be an outstanding stopper at youth level and quickly progressed into the reserves. A tall, athletic and superbly agile stopper, he spent much of the 2009-10 campaign on loan at Brentford, where he produced a string of man-of-the-match performances.

Wojciech enjoyed a real breakthrough season with the Gunners in 2010-11, making his Barclays Premier League debut against Manchester United in December and then taking advantage of injuries to his rivals to become first choice ‘keeper for the second half of the season. He retained the jersey for the 2011-12 campaign, when he was the only Arsenal player to be ever-present in the Barclays Premier League, producing some superb displays.

He won his first full cap for Poland in November 2009, and has since made further appearances for his country, featuring in the squad for Euro 2012.
