Wojciech Szczesny is a young goalkeeper who joined Arsenal as a teenager having developed in Poland in the youth system of Legia Warsaw. Wojciech proved to be an outstanding stopper at youth level and quickly progressed into the reserves. A tall, athletic and superbly agile stopper, he spent much of the 2009-10 campaign on loan at Brentford, where he produced a string of Man of the Match performances. Wojciech enjoyed a real breakthrough season with the Gunners in 2010-11, making his Premier League debut against Manchester United in December and then taking advantage of injuries to his rivals to become first choice ?keeper for the second half of the season. He won his first full cap for Poland in November 2009, thus following in the footsteps of his father, Maciej, also a goalkeeper, who played for his country in the 1990s. © 2011 - PFA Player Profiles
