Tomasz Kuszczak Biography
Tomasz Kuszczak is a goalkeeper currently playing for Manchester United.
After developing in the Polish youth system, he moved to Germany in 1999 aged just 16 to play for Uerdingen before joining Hertha Berlin in 2000.
He spent four years in the German capital as third-choice goalkeeper but failed to break into the senior team. At the end of his contract in 2004, Tomasz joined West Bromwich Albion. Whilst he was still not first choice, he produced some eye-catching performances, and took over the 'keeper's jersey for the Baggies midway through the following season.
In 2006, Manchester United sought out his services, taking him on a year-long loan with a view to a permanent transfer. As a reserve goalkeeper, he made a clutch of appearances and won a league title before joining the club on a permanent basis, where he continued in his role as understudy to Edwin van der Sar throughout further title-winning campaigns.
Tomasz enjoyed a first real run of starts between the posts for the Red Devils in 2009-10 and performed admirably, leading many to think he can be the successor to van der Sar when the Dutch veteran eventually hangs up his gloves.
Despite having never quite nailed down a starting role throughout his career, Tomasz made his Poland debut in 2003 and has since added further appearances for his country.
