Stewart Downing Biography

A winger who signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2011 after two seasons with Aston Villa.

Stewart made regular appearances for the Reds’ during the campaign but struggled to get goals. He finally scored his first for the club when he netted in the 5-1 FA Cup win over OIdham Athletic and went on to score the quarter-final winner against Stoke City.

Stewart started his career in the Academy at Middlesbrough before graduating through to the first team squad. He went on to make over 200 appearances for Boro before moving to Aston Villa.

Stewart made his England debut in February 2005 and has continued to be a member of the national squad winning his 34th cap in the friendly against Norway at the end of May.
