Sebastian Coates

A young centre back who signed for Liverpool in August 2011.

Sebastian is a solid defender who developed with the Nacional club in his native Uruguay. He established himself in the first team at a young age and went on to be capped by his country before moving to Anfield. Sebastian faced competition for places in the starting line-up and after he made his Barclays Premier League debut coming on as a substitute in September he did not feature again in the League until January.

Sebastian went on to gain further experience in the second half of the season. He made his debut for the Uruguay national team in 2011 and later the same year played in four out of six of his country’s games in the Copa America winning the Young Player of the Tournament award.

He made further appearances during 2011-12 and played in all three of Uruguay’s group games in the 2012 Olympic Games.
