Sanchez Jose Enrique Biography

A left back who signed for Liverpool in August 2011 after four seasons at Newcastle United.

Jose made his Reds’ debut on the opening day against Sunderland quickly established himself as first choice. He missed just a handful of Barclays Premier League games and even ended up playing as an emergency goalkeeper after Pepe Reina was red-carded at Newcastle.

Liverpool were already 2-0 down at the time but Jose managed to avoid conceding a goal in his seven minute spell between the sticks. Jose is a strong tackler with the ability to get forward and has good distribution skills.

He started his career in his native Spain with Levante and later played for Villareal before joining Newcastle. He has represented Spain at U21 level.
