Sam Slocombe is a young goalkeeper who joined Scunthorpe United in the summer of 2008. Sam had been attached to the schools of excellence at Scunthorpe and Lincoln City as a youngster before studying at York College, where he gained representative honours for the England Colleges National Team. He later took a rather unconventional route into professional football, when his performances at regional level for Northern Counties East League side Bottesford Town earned him a move to the Iron for a nominal fee. During the 2010-11 campaign, Sam made his first start for the club in a Carling Cup tie against Oldham, also adding a couple of appearances from the bench.
