Central defender Sam Collins is the Hartlepool United team captain. A strongly built player, he started his career at Huddersfield Town and later had successful spells with Bury and Port Vale. Following this he had three seasons with Hull City which were badly affected by injuries. He joined Hartlepool in January 2008 and since then his experience and reliability has brought stability to the Pools? defence. For the past three seasons has been almost ever-present in the first team, and has very quickly reached a total of over 150 first team appearances. A player popular with the club's supporters, he has been chosen as the Away Player of the Year for the last two seasons.
