Ryan Taylor Biography

A young defender who joined the Newcastle United Academy in 2007.

James, who has been used at centre back and at full back, played for the U18s before breaking into the reserve team. He made his first-team debut at right back in a Carling Cup tie against Peterborough in September 2009 and then appeared in the same competition against Accrington Stanley in 2010-11.

James was loaned to Gateshead in January 2011 and gained valuable experience with the Conference club before being recalled to St James' Park in March.

He was subsequently on the bench for a number of Premier League games in the final weeks of the season. James continued his football development with a succession of loan spells at Carlisle, Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons in 2011-12 before returning to Tyneside as cover for injuries.

He signed a further contract for the Magpies in the summer of 2012.
