Ross Turnbull Biography

A goalkeeper who joined Chelsea from Middlesbrough in the 2009 close season.

A product of the academy system at the Riverside Stadium, he played most of his senior football out on loan before the departure of Mark Schwarzer in the summer of 2008 left him in competition with Brad Jones for the ‘keeper’s jersey.

Ross was first choice for the first half of the 2008-09 campaign before losing his place in the side and at the end of the season opted for a move to Stamford Bridge. An England U20 international, Ross made his debut for the Blues when he came off the bench as a substitute for Hilario in a Carling Cup tie against Bolton in October 2009, while his first start came in the Champions League fixture with Apoel Nicosia in December of the same year.

He continued to add to his experience in 2011-12 with four more starts for Chelsea and he remains a long-term back-up to Petr Cech.
