Richard Hughes is an experienced midfielder who was in his eighth season with Portsmouth in 2010-11. Richard spent time with Atalanta of Bergamo as a youngster, before signing for Arsenal. He is predominantly a defensive midfielder known for his tackling and man-marking ability, although he can also play at left back and on the left-hand side of midfield. Richard has been used mainly as a squad player in recent seasons, featuring in just a handful of first-team games. He did not appear at all after the end of December 2010 and was released by the club at the end of the season.
