Philipp Degen

Philipp Degen is an experienced defender who joined Liverpool in the summer of 2008.

Phillip is primarily a right back who can also play at left back and on the right side of midfield, and is particularly effective when pushing down the flank to support the attack.

He was affected by a string of injuries in his first season at Anfield and eventually made his Premier League debut when he came off the bench for the game with Burnley in September 2009. However, he then struggled to establish himself in the side, although he enjoyed a brief run in the line-up during January 2010. He spent the whole of the 2010-11 season on loan to VfB Stuttgart and left Liverpool by mutual consent in August 2011.

He began his career in Switzerland with Basel and later spent three seasons with Borussia Dortmund prior to his arrival at Anfield.

Philipp was first capped for Switzerland in February 2005 and has currently played over 30 times for his country.
