Paulo Ferreira

An experienced defender who has been at Chelsea since July 2004. A right winger early on in his career at Estoril and Vitoria Setubal, he switched to right back after joining Porto in 2002.

In two years at the club he won the UEFA Cup and Champions League, before following coach Jose Mourinho to Chelsea. Paulo filled a problematic position for the Blues, producing a series of dependable performances.

Not a spectacular player, he rarely scores but often provides dangerous crosses, and at his peak was one of the best defensive full backs in the world. In recent years injury and age have meant he has relinquished his starting place for Chelsea, but he remains a useful squad player at Stamford Bridge.

In 2011-12 he added a second UEFA Champions League crown to his CV as Chelsea beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena after a penalty shoot-out. Paulo made his international debut for Portugal in 2002 and has most recently played at left back.

He retired from international selection after the 2010 World Cup, having amassed 62 caps.
