Papiss Cisse Biography

A striker who signed for Newcastle United in the January 2012 transfer window after spending the previous two years in Germany with SC Freiburg.

Papiss came off the bench to score on his debut for the Magpies against Aston Villa and continued to find the net regularly in the closing stages of the season, finishing the campaign with 13 goals from 14 appearances.

His total including 9 in a run of 6 games, and a number of superb strikes including two at Stamford Bridge, the second of which was chosen as Goal of the Season for BBC Television’s Match of the Day programme. Papiss spent his formative years in France with Metz before joining SC Freiburg in January 2010.

He scored prolifically during his time there, netting 37 goals from 65 Bundesliga appearances before his move to St James’ Park. Papiss represents Senegal at international level, winning his first cap in August 2009.
