Owen Hargreaves Biography
Owen
Hargreaves is a midfielder who was on the books of Manchester United in
2010-11.
A dynamic and combative central midfield player able to influence
matches at either end of the field, his contribution to the Red Devils'
double-winning season in 2007-08 cannot be understated, and his subsequent absence
through injury was keenly felt at Old Trafford. Owen was born and brought up in
Canada and played his early football for local side Calgary Foothills before
joining German giants Bayern Munich at the age of 16.
A rapid rise through
their youth set-up followed and he made his debut in August 2000, going on to
collect Bundesliga and Champions League winners' medals that season. Three more
league titles followed in an immensely successful seven-year spell as a
first-teamer in Munich before he sought a new challenge and joined United in
the summer of 2007.
Owen brought much-needed energy and tenacity to the Reds'
midfield as his new team won both the Premiership and the Champions League in
his first season and showed his versatility with superb displays at both
right-back and on the right of midfield.
Owen pledged his allegiance to England
in 2001, and went on to star for Sven Goran Eriksson's team at the 2006 World
Cup, winning more than 40 caps.
In the summer of 2011 he left Old Trafford and in a surprise move signed for local rivals City at the end of the summer transfer window.
