Oriol Romeu Biography

A defensive midfield player who joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer of 2011.

After developing in the Spanish club’s fabled La Masia academy, Oriol made his senior debut in the Spanish Super Cup in 2010 but found further progression harder to come by.

He had caught the eye of then-Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas though, and when the Portuguese boss joined Chelsea, he became one of his first signings. Oriol made a number of early-season appearances from the bench before making his first start against Wolves in November.

He went on to enjoy a run of games but rarely featured following a change in management at the club.

He has represented Spain at U21 level and was a member of his country’s squad for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
