Mikel Arteta

A stylish midfield player who joined Arsenal from Everton shortly before the August 2011 transfer window closed.

He enjoyed an excellent first season at the Emirates Stadium when he was an ever-present when fit and produced a series of consistent performances throughout the campaign. Perhaps the highlight of his campaign came in April when he netted a superb effort in the home game with Manchester City to clinch a 1-0 win.

An extremely talented player, Mikel can play in any position across the centre of the park. He started out as a winger, but has moved to central midfield where his sublime passing skills have set up many attacks, whilst his ability from dead-ball situations is second-to-none.

He was previously with Everton, having joined the Blues on loan in January 2005, signing permanently the following summer. He missed almost a year from February 2009 after suffering a serious knee injury but came back strongly once he had recovered.

Mikel has represented Spain at U17, U18 and U21 levels, but has yet to win a senior cap for his country.
