Michael Kay

Michael Kay is a promising young defender who was on the books of Sunderland in 2010-11.

Michael joined the club as an eight-year-old, progressing through the age groups before completing a two-year scholarship. Michael was the reserves' leading appearance-maker in 2009-10, when he regularly captained the side.

He made his first-team debut for Sunderland in February 2009 in an FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Michael gained further experience of senior football in 2010-11, firstly during a loan spell with Conference club Gateshead, and then with Tranmere Rovers in the new year.

He did well during his time at Prenton Park, gaining regular first-team football and after being released by Sunderland in the summer he returned to Tranmere on a permanent basis.
