Player Details

Matt James is a promising young midfielder who currently plays for Manchester United. A powerful all-round central midfield player with good technique, a fine range of passing and a real eye for goal, he has also filled in at centre back and right back, his versatility proving another great asset to his coaches at all levels. Matt joined the Red Devils' Academy at the age of 11 after a short spell with Blackburn and was handed a full-time scholarship in July 2007. A year later he was made captain of the U18 side, but rapid progress saw him promoted to the reserves midway through the campaign, where he swiftly became a regular. Matt turned professional in July 2009 and has remained first choice for the second string this term, although his involvement with England at the U19 UEFA Championships in July and the U20 FIFA World Cup in September deprived the Reds of his services for lengthy spells in 2009. In February 2010 Matt joined Preston on loan for the second half of the season, scoring on his debut against Sheffield United and earning rave reviews, prompting the Lilywhites to extend that loan for a further season. While that second term was unfortunately disrupted by injury, Matt will hope to get back on track in the 2011-12 campaign and fulfil his obvious potential. 2011 - PFA Player Profiles
