Martin Kelly Biography
A promising young defender who plays for Liverpool.
Martin can play across the back four but is best used at right back, a role for which his pace and ability to get forward and deliver accurate crosses is suited.
A graduate of the club’s academy, he signed a professional contract in the summer of 2007 and immediately became a regular in the reserve team. He made his senior debut in a Champions’ League tie with PSV Eindhoven in September 2008 and later in 2008-09 he spent three months on loan with League One side Huddersfield Town.
He has since continued to make progress and in 2011-12 made a number of Barclays Premier League appearances with his performances earning him Liverpool’s Young Player of the Year for the second successive season. Martin continued to appear for England U21s and earned a call-up for the full England squad.
He made his debut in a friendly against Norway at the end of May and was included in the Euro 2012 finals squad being an unused substitute in three of England’s games.
