Mark Phillips is a central defender who joined Southend United on a free transfer in July 2010. However, he endured a frustrating season for the Shrimpers in 2010-11, missing long periods as a result of being sidelined by a string of injuries and undergoing a hernia operation. Mark began his career with Millwall where he spent eight seasons before crossing London to sign for Brentford in August 2008. He helped the Bees win the League Two title in 2008-09 but lost his place through injury the following season.
