Mark McChrystal only joined Tranmere Rovers from Derry City in the winter transfer window of 2011, yet he came close to carrying off the club?s Player of the Year award. Another native of Northern Ireland who returned to England in the hope of resurrecting a League career, Mark's performances at the heart of Rovers? defence, Les Parry describes him as a 'natural leader', were key to Rovers staying clear of the relegation zone with a few games to spare. Once on Wolves books, he had a spell at Partick Thistle before becoming the defensive lynchpin of Derry. Fast, combative and a good talker on the pitch, he made 21 starts for Rovers.
