Manuel Almunia Biography

Manuel Almunia is an experienced goalkeeper who signed for Arsenal in July 2004.

He is a quick, agile and energetic 'keeper with a reputation for saving penalties. Manuel took over from Jens Lehmann as the Gunners’ first choice goalkeeper at the beginning of the 2007-08 season and retained his place until September 2010 when he suffered an injury.

He was back in action the following January but for the remainder of the campaign he was second choice to Wojciech Szczesny. Manuel joined the Gunners having enjoyed a lengthy career in Spain beginning with his home town club Osasuna.

He later played for Sabadell and Celta Vigo before joining Arsenal.
