Nani is a talented winger currently playing for Manchester United. Born in the Cape Verde Islands, he moved to Portugal at a young age and joined local youth team Real de Massama before signing for Sporting Lisbon in 2003. He broke into the first team in 2005 and began to make an impression as a fleet-footed dynamic winger with an abundance of skill. He made his international debut for Portugal in September 2006, marking the occasion by scoring against Denmark, and Manchester United were suitably impressed with him to sign him up in the summer of 2007. Upon moving to England Nani initially struggled for consistency and a regular starting berth due to the presence of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs, but in flashes showed a flair for the spectacular, scoring a number of stunning long-range goals, all celebrated with his trademark capoeira somersault. He has also shown glimpses of mesmeric dribbling and accurate crossing, and - over the past couple of seasons - he has begun to develop the temperament and consistency required to make him a key player at Old Trafford. Some of his most impressive form has come at international level for Portugal, for whom he has now won over 40 caps. © 2011 - PFA Player Profiles
