Leon Best Biography

Leon Best is a versatile striker who signed for Newcastle United in the January 2010 transfer window.

Although he featured regularly in the team during 2009-10 he failed to score and he then suffered an injury in pre-season. Leon did not return to first-team action until January 2011 when he came on as a substitute against Wigan.

He then produced a prolific run scoring six goals in nine games including a hat-trick against West Ham United in his first Premier League start for the Magpies. Leon subsequently suffered an injury in March and was out of action for several weeks only returning on the final day of the season.

Leon is a former Southampton and Coventry City player who won his first cap for the Republic of Ireland against Nigeria in May 2009.
