Kelvin Mellor is a young defender who joined Crewe Alexandra as a 17-year-old from neighbours Nantwich Town in February 2008. Kelvin, who has appeared at right back, centre back and as a holding midfield player, developed in the academy and reserve teams and was loaned back to Nantwich early in 2009-10 to gain senior experience. He was included on the first-team bench later in 2009-10 and after a spell on loan at Stafford Rangers early in 2010-11 he made his League debut when he came on late in the win at Morecambe in November 2010. In February he was loaned to Leek Town and his football education continued in April when he was sent on a three-month loan to the Icelandic club IBV.
