Juan Manuel Mata Biography

A skilful midfield playmaker who signed for Chelsea in August 2011. Juan quickly settled into life at Stamford Bridge and established himself as a regular in the team.

A player who brought flair and entertainment to Stamford Bridge, he produced some fine performances and was chosen as Player of the Year by the club’s supporters. He scored a debut goal against Norwich City and was a key figure in the club’s FA Cup and Champions League successes during the season.

A product of the Real Madrid youth system, Mata left the club as a teenager in search of regular first-team football and found it Valencia. In four years at the club he established himself as one of Europe’s most talented young playmakers before his move to Chelsea.

Juan has won 19 caps for Spain and topped his season with a goal in the final of the Euro 2012 tournament against Italy.

He also appeared for his country in the 2012 Olympic Games.
