Johnny Heitinga is a versatile, hard tackling defender who signed for Everton at the end of the summer 2009 transfer window. Whilst he prefers to play in central defence, Johnny has also featured at right back and as a defensive midfielder at Goodison. After coming through the youth ranks at Ajax, Johnny went on to make over 150 appearances for the Amsterdam club before spending a season in Spain with Atletico Madrid. Johnny played in a number of positions early on for Everton before settling in at centre back where he was impressive in the 2009-10 campaign. However, he lost out to the pairing of Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka in 2010-11 and most of his appearances came in midfield. Johnny won his first full cap for the Netherlands in 2004 and has since become a regular for his country, appearing in the 2010 World Cup final defeat by Spain.
