Joe Newell is a left-sided player who spent the 2010-11 season as a second-year scholar with Peterborough United. Joe developed in the U18s but his progress meant he was given a first-team squad number. He was called into the senior squad late in the season as cover for injuries and he made his debut against Yeovil Town in April, adding a further appearance when he was introduced as a first-half substitute in the 5-0 win over Dagenham. Joe, who signed a professional contract in March 2011, was included on the substitutes' bench during the play-offs as Posh secured a place back in the Championship at the first time of asking.
