Jamie Carragher Biography
A long-serving defender who has spent over a decade on the books of Liverpool and is now second only to Ian Callaghan in appearances for the club.
Jamie joined the Reds as a youngster, signing professional forms in October 1996 and making his first-team debut in January 1997. His early years at Anfield were spent as a utility player as he played across the back four and in central midfield.
He then became established as the team’s regular right back, before moving to left back and finally to the centre of defence. Jamie’s great assets are his enthusiasm, reading of the game and his tackling, which has thwarted many an opposing attack.
Twice an FA Cup winner and a member of the team that won the Champions’ League in 2005, Jamie was voted as the club’s Player of the Year in 2004-05 and 2006-07.
He was again a regular in the side in 2011-12 finishing the season on 699 senior appearances for the Reds. Jamie won 34 caps for England between 1999 and 2007, before returning as a member of Fabio Capello's 2010 World Cup squad.
