Henrique Hilario Biography

An experienced goalkeeper currently serving as back-up to Petr Cech at Chelsea. Hilario spent most of his career at FC Porto, largely in a back-up role, before moving to Nacional.

Here, he came to attention as a dependable and consistent stopper, and was signed by Jose Mourinho to offer cover at Stamford Bridge. He has been an occasional contributor, being promoted to second choice when Carlo Cudicini left the club, and has rarely let the team down when called for duty.

He signed a contract extension in July 2011 but his first-team contribution consisted of two Barclays Premier League appearances in 2011-12. Hilario is an excellent shot stopper.

He won his first, and so far only, international cap for Portugal against China at the age of 34 in March 2010.
