Gabriel Obertan Biography

A gifted young attacker who signed for Newcastle United in August 2011.

He was a regular for the Magpies in the first half of the 2011-12 season before losing his place in the side. Gabriel spent his early years in the Clairefontaine Academy then joined Bordeaux where he received limited exposure to first-team football.

It was during a spell on loan to Lorient that he was spotted by Manchester United, arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2009. In Manchester he caught the eye with his cameo appearances from the bench, showing electric pace and great dribbling ability, but injury and the form of the squad's other wingers limited his opportunities at first-team level.

Gabriel has been capped for France at every age group level up to the U21s.
