Fernando Torres Biography
A world class striker who signed for Chelsea from Liverpool in January 2010 for a British record transfer fee.
It took him more than 900 minutes to score his first goal for the Blues, but he eventually overcame his goal drought to score 11 goals in all competitions in 2011-12 and lifted his first club silverware as Chelsea won the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League. Fernando came to prominence as a teenager with Atletico Madrid and went on to become one of the most prolific strikers in Spanish football.
His performances at the 2006 World Cup finals earned him a move to England and to Liverpool, where he would join a number of compatriots under fellow Spaniard Rafael Benitez. He quickly became a fans’ favourite at Anfield, and the Barclays Premier League’s leading marksman for the Reds.
Injuries curtailed his progress somewhat, and with his form slightly on the wane, he departed for Stamford Bridge. Fernando has also been an influential figure for the successful Spain national team in recent years, contributing to their successes in the 2010 World Cup final as well as their back-to-back victories in 2008 and 2012 in the European championships.
