Dimitar Berbatov Biography
Dimitar Berbatov is a striker on the books of Manchester United and the all-time leading goalscorer for the Bulgaria national team.
A tall, elegant forward with a languid playing style, his touch is exquisite and he has the ability to create a goal out of almost nothing, either as a scorer or as a provider.
After spending his youth career at a local club side in Blagoevgrad, he moved as a 17-year-old to CSKA Sofia and quickly established himself as one of the league's best players. Foreign interest was inevitable, and in 2001 Dimitar moved to Germany, signing for Bayer Leverkusen.
After a brief settling-in period he became a key player for a side which would reach the 2002 Champions’ League final and become one of the leading sides in Germany.
Prolific form in a five-year spell at the club was rewarded in the form of a move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2006, where he struck up a fine partnership with Robbie Keane, and over the next two years showed the qualities and scored the goals that would convince Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him up in August 2008.
Since then he has celebrated his first career league titles and established himself as one of the team's most creative forces, and 2010-11 was his most prolific season in English football to date.
One of his country's finest ever players, Dimitar retired from international football in May 2010 after scoring a record 48 goals in 77 appearances.
