Demba Ba

A striker who joined Newcastle United from West Ham in June 2011.

Although he went five games without scoring for the Magpies he then hit top goalscoring form with hat-tricks against Blackburn and Stoke and he had scored 15 goals when he went off on international duty early in the New Year.

It was a different story on his return, however, for he hit something of a goal drought and only found the net once more during the remainder of the season. Born in France, Demba began his career with Rouen before moving to Belgian side Mouscron in 2006. A year later he made it three countries in three years by joining Hoffenheim, where he went on to score 37 goals in 97 appearances.

He spent the second half of 2010-11 with West Ham where he finished as the club's top Barclays Premier League scorer with 7 goals from 12 games.
