Former Spurs midfielder Dean Marney signed for Burnley from Hull City in the summer of 2010 after both clubs had been relegated from the Premier League. Dean came to the public's attention with a stunning goal for Spurs against Everton in January 2005, but most of his football was played away from White Hart Lane as he went to a number of clubs on loan. Then Hull signed him and he was a major player in their promotion in 2008. At Burnley he eventually settled into a regular starting place in the midfield and turned in some outstanding performances whilst scoring a fantastic overhead-kick winner at Portsmouth.
