David Murphy is a full back on the books of Birmingham City. After developing as a youngster with Middlesbrough, David joined Hibernian where he was a member of the team that won the Scottish League Cup in 2006-07.

He subsequently became Alex McLeish’s first signing for Blues when he arrived at St Andrew’s in January 2008. An effective left back with vision who likes to push forward and deliver the ball into the opposition box,

David featured regularly in the club’s promotion campaign of 2008-09 before being sidelined by a knee injury in the closing stages. This caused him to miss almost the whole of the 2009-10 campaign and it was not until August 2010 that he returned to first-team action.

However, he was principally a cover player during 2010-11, unable to dislodge Liam Ridgewell from the line-up.
