David Healy Biography

David Healy is an experienced striker who was on the books of Sunderland in 2010-11.

David began his career as a trainee with Manchester United, but gained little first-team experience at Old Trafford except during loan spells elsewhere. He eventually moved on to Preston North End where he established his reputation as a prolific goalscorer. Transfers to Leeds and Fulham followed before his move to the Black Cats in the 2008 close season.

However, he did not start a single Premier League game during his time with the club. His final appearance came in the FA Cup tie with Portsmouth in January 2010 although after this he spent time on loan with Ipswich and Doncaster, where he scored on his debut against Millwall. In January 2011 he moved on to sign for SPL club Rangers, where he made a number of appearances, mostly as a substitute.

David continues to represent Northern Ireland at international level, having won his first cap back in February 2000.

He has now played more than 80 games for his country and his tally of 35 goals constitutes an all-time record. He was awarded the MBE in 2008.
