Player Details

When Bristol City signed England?s World Cup goalkeeper David James in the summer of 2010, the news set the whole city buzzing. Unfortunately, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Millwall in the season's opener closely followed by manager Steve Coppell's shock resignation just two games into the campaign hardly constituted the best start he would have hoped for.  However, David soon hit top form, proving a key figure as he encouraged and organised those around him and produced many superb saves. A vital penalty stop against Leicester City at Ashton Gate in November, was of particular significance and he went on to be a near ever-present in the Robins? line-up. David began his professional career at Watford and he later played for Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City before joining Portsmouth in August 2006. He has played over 800 senior games, holds the Premier League record for most appearances and clean sheets and to date has won over 50 England caps.
