David Mooney is an striker who developed in League of Ireland football before signing for Reading during the 2008 close season.

He featured in both the Royals' Carling Cup games early in the 2009-10 campaign under Brendan Rodgers but despite scoring twice in a 5-1 thrashing of Burton Albion, he spent the rest of the season out on loan at Charlton Athletic.

The front man had previously spent loan spells away from Madejski Stadium, at Stockport and at Norwich, and in 2010-11 he was lent to Colchester United for the entire campaign.
