Chris Herd Biography

A central midfielder who joined Aston Villa as a scholar from the Australian club Bayswater City in February 2005, later graduating to a professional contract.

An all-action player who can also play at full back and in central defence, Chris is strong in the tackle and able to break up opposition moves and start attacks. After making his senior debut in January 2008 while on loan to Port Vale, Chris gained further experience in loan spells with Wycombe and Lincoln City, but it was not until November 2010 that he featured for Villa in the Barclays Premier League.

He enjoyed a real breakthrough season in 2011-12 and after beginning the campaign at right back he established himself in a central-midfield role, making 19 League starts. A highlight came at Anfield in April when he scored an excellent goal to secure Villa a point at Anfield.

Chris has been capped for Australia at U20 level but has yet to win his first full international cap.
