Chris Armstrong

Chris Armstrong is a versatile left back signed towards the end of the summer 2008 transfer window. In his first season at Reading, under Steve Coppell, the former Bury, Oldham Athletic and Sheffield United defender was a virtual ever present and earned the Royals’ Player of the Season award in May 2009. But a knee injury restricted him to just one appearance the following season. In 2010-11 Chris was thrust back into first-team action and he produced some superb no-nonsense performances in central midfield, reminding Royals’ fans of his true talent. However, early in 2011 it was announced that Chris had been battling with Multiple Sclerosis and he was tragically forced to retire from professional football.
