Alex came up through the youth ranks at the club, making his senior debut in an FA Cup tie against Yeovil in December 2005. He made several further first-team appearances in 2005-06 before suffering a broken leg during a youth game. After returning to full fitness Alex signed a professional contract for the Saddlers in the summer of 2006 and became a regular in the reserves. He re-emerged as a right-sided midfielder during 2008-09 and has since become a useful member of the senior squad, whether playing from the start or appearing as a substitute. Alex was once again a regular in the squad in 2010-11, starting over half the games.
