Abdoulaye Meite Biography

Abdoulaye Meite is a versatile defender who signed for West Bromwich Albion in August 2008.

He is a tall player who mostly features at centre back, and is effective in the tackle and able to read the game well. A series of injuries affected his first season at The Hawthorns and he was never able to get an extended run in the line-up.

He struggled to win his place back in 2009-10 with increased competition at the club, but enjoyed a run of appearances at the turn of the year. It was a similar tale in 2010-11 when it was not until the closing weeks of the campaign that he came back, partnering Jonas Olsson once more in the heart of the defence.

Abdoulaye began his career with Paris Red Star, then played for Marseilles before moving to the Premier League to sign for Bolton Wanderers where he spent two seasons before moving on.

He has won close on 50 caps for the Ivory Coast and was a member of the squad for the 2006 World Cup finals.

Abdoulaye left The Hawthorns in the summer of 2011, signing for France’s Ligue 1 club Dijon.
